Johnny Macaroni’s History
John Vallarelli, founder of Johnny Macaroni’s restaurants, learned the restaurant business from the ground up. John opened his first restaurant, a family-owned business, in Newton, MA in 1980. After 10 years of managing several restaurants, John decided it was time to follow his dream to build a business for his family.
In November 1996, John purchased the “Wee Bee” restaurant in East Bridgewater, MA and the transformation began with the help from Chiasson Builders. Johnny Macaroni’s opened its doors to our first customers in February 1997 with a 50-seat restaurant.
With the loyalty and support from so many local families over the years, it became evident that we needed to expand. Although we understood the ‘quirkiness’ of the original building, we also wanted to maintain its integrity. So, in November 2013, we purchased “Heather’s Place,” and after months of renovations from our trusted building partner, Chiasson Builders, we opened our second location in February 2014. To our delight, opening night was a huge success and we’ve built a base of loyal customers from Bridgewater, Halifax, Hanover, and many other surrounding cities at our second location.
Johnny Macaroni’s has a new opening at a new location for catering pick ups and take out – lunch and dinner.
We’re located on route 106 in Halifax, right by the Halifax / East Bridgewater town line.
We’re excited to offer our customers the same great food, with an easy and convenient pick up area. Our new location is all about convenience. From phone ordering to parking, to the pick up counter, our new facility offers the ease and convenience our fabulous customers deserve.
We plan to offer some new items, grab and go selections, as well as our time honored classics.
At Johnny Macaroni’s, it’s all about family, and our staff is no exception. The Vallarelli’s oldest son, Chris, has been with Johnny Macaroni’s since opening day, and now serves as Executive Chef and Manager for the West Street restaurant. Sister Stephanie was one of the original wait-staff, and Uncle Abb supported the dream and vision.
Over the years, our family grew and so did the staff. Two more sons grew up in the business, Jonathan and Jensen, helping Dad out in the kitchen at a very young age. We consider staff a part of the Johnny Macaroni’s family, and many have been with us for 15 years. Some came to the restaurants as a child and are now working with us while they attend college or raising families of their own.
We truly are a family-operated business. John continues to lead the vision for the Johnny Macaroni’s brand, and in 2016, the company introduced Johnny Macaroni’s homemade sauces which can be purchased online and found in many food and specialty stores throughout MA and RI. John’s wife, Cheryl, leads the HR function, as well as developing partnerships and managing the business development, build-out and marketing areas. After graduating from Bridgewater State University, Jonathan joined his brother on the executive team and now manages Johnny Macaroni’s 2. Jensen works in the catering and take-out department while attending classes at Bridgewater State University.
Our mission remains the same as the first day we opened – serve wholesome and creative Italian meals and sauces just like those our customers remember enjoying at “Nonny’s” home on Sunday afternoons as a child. We look forward to continuing to serve our customers authentic and delicious Italian cuisine they’ve come to love, and introducing new food products that can be enjoyed at home.
Eat well, laugh often, love much. Bon appetito!
